Dr Elisabeth Wright (Video Design for Theatre)
We have been asked to produce a video set projected video set design to accompany a play written by Dr Elisabeth Wright about the relationship between the sisters Virginia Wolf and Vanessa Bell. The play has been adapted by her from the book, Vanessa and Virginia by Dr Susan Summers.
This is an ambitious project led by Sam Simmonds and Keely Major, involving many different aspects of media production. Many of the film clips created have started their life as film. Trees, water, sky and light, and then altered using differnt types of software to make them more abstract and dreamlike. Vanessa's beautiful paintings were also taken as a jumping off point for design, using the colours and textures of her work and adapting them and animanting them, bringing her art to life in a gentle abstract form.
All this work has been created to be projected behind the actors on the stage, creating a universe for them to inhabit as strange and intense as the world Virginia and Vanessa themselves created for themselves.
